👶 Types of Hearing Tests for Children
There are several types of hearing tests tailored to a child’s age and ability:

Newborn Hearing Screening (OAE or ABR):Typically performed before the baby leaves the hospital, this test checks the inner ear or auditory nerve response to sound. As a result, many hearing issues can be identified within the first few days of life.

Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA):Used for babies and toddlers (around 6 months to 2.5 years old). The child learns to look toward a sound source and receives a visual reward, such as a flashing toy. This makes the test interactive and engaging.

Conditioned Play Audiometry (CPA):Suitable for children aged 2.5 to 5 years. The child plays a simple game—like dropping a block—each time they hear a tone. Consequently, testing becomes fun and age-appropriate.

Pure-Tone Audiometry:Ideal for older children who can wear headphones and respond to tones by pressing a button or raising a hand. In this way, the audiologist can measure the softest sounds the child can hear.
